And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Love the desert. Just drove through Arches for the first time a couple weeks ago coming home from Colorado. Would love to spend some time there, but the whole Moab scene is a little too crowded for me.
Moab became more of a tourist destination. May I recommend the Kokopelli Trail? It begins near Fruita, CO and ends up in Moab. I've done it several times and I have enjoyed the journeys. I have made the run in two days and I've made it in four. A lot depends on the various and sundry detours that you decide to make a long the way. I suggest that a three day plan for the Kokopelli is just about right.
Thanks for the Kokopelli suggestion. Love Abbey's writing, with the exception of the monkey wrench gang stuff. I forget the publication, but he's got a chapter describing a rental car fiasco in Australia that had me in stitches.
I've seen rain like that in the very same place. Flash floods can be a problem. Patience and high ground is called for.

ReplyDeleteYou'd like Desert Solitaire by Edward Abbey. My favorite chapter: Tukuhnikivats, the Island in the Desert.
