Saturday trip to the Gold Country

Before Christmas the family likes to take a day to drive up to the Gold Rush town of Sonora to do a little Christmas shopping and to pay a visit to the kid's grandparent's graves out at the local cemetery.

This year there was an unseasonable storm that dumped a few inches of snow the night before we went up, which for me at least made the visit even better.  The locals told us that not much farther up in the mountains there was several feet of snow.

The girls at a local restaurant trying to decide about lunch.

For some reason, no one ordered the Bull Shit Burger.  The waitress confirmed our suspicion that mostly guys find this attractive.   It's a guy thing.

                                                        A Sonora downtown doorway.

While walking around it started snowing again.  Gotta like a place called "The Sportsman" which sells beer, knives, ammo and guns all in the same location. It's a combo bar and fishing and gun store, which fits with the neighborhood.  There were some nice locally tied dry flies for sale, which made me pine for the rushing mountain stream.

                                                               The kids together.

We got home at a reasonable time, invited the dogs and cat inside, got a nice fire started and everyone is just hanging around, pleasantly tired.  Great Saturday.

    1. Thanks Phyllis, I almost have them raised all the way. You would love the Gold Country, as we call it - a string of little burgs among the hills, each with it's own character.
