  2. "commissioned in March 1914"... One Hundred and Eleven years old... and counting.

There was a story by "John Ringo?" where the USS Texas was recommissioned as an AI battleship. Fun read.

    1. Are you thinking of Daniel da Cruz's "The Ayes of Texas," "Texas on the Rocks," and "Texas Triumphant"? I have that series in my collection, and I've read it numerous times.

    2. You are in the right author's arena but got the details a bit mixed up.
The USS Salem heavy cruiser is transformed into a "Super Ship" using alien tech for coastal bombardment of Posleen who are advancing up the Ishmus (sp?) of Panama.
Later, Salem is transformed into a space going warship in another series book.
Texas, along with all the other surviving battleships, is jacked up much like Salem initially is.
These ships fight the Posleen concentrations near the coasts.
"Legend of the Aldenat" is a roller coaster of a series. I recommend it.
      Start at the beginning, though.
Doesn't make sense if you chime on a later note.

    3. Great series, I’ve read it multiple times. Tom Kratman co-authored Yellow Eyes, the book with the Salem and the Texas.

  3. I spent the night aboard as a Boy Scout in the '70's, was pretty beat up even then.

  4. Rudder left at about 12 degrees to starboard, because that was the last command official command given to the helmsman.
