And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? ReplyDeleteGrandfather, a Major in WWII had a good friend who fought in WWI. I met granpa's friend a few times. It is interesting to note the connections between generations like this. Civil War to WWI, then to WWII and to me. I'm now 61, and his friend was in his 70's when I met him.
ReplyDeletePresident John Tyler was born in 1790, became President in 1841, passing away in 1862. One of his sons (out of 15 children), Lyon Gardiner Tyler, was born in 1853. He passed away in 1935 but had 2 sons (Lyon Gardiner Tyler, Junior, born in 1925 and Harrison Ruffin Tyler, born in 1923.). The first son passed away in 2020 but the younger son is still alive today. That's 235 years.
