And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. Buddy did two tours as a Marine dog handler. He recalled that his first night in country his platoon was on a hillside. The sergeant came by and told them to look out into the dark over what they knew was a large valley. Suddenly a stream of red light dropped from the shy and blasted the ground. A few moments later they heard the low buzzing sound of the guns. He said it was the most amazing sight he'd ever seen.

ReplyDeleteIf I have it right, we US Marines in Nam called the AC-47 gunship "Puff (the magic dragon) and the AD-47 that dropped flairs was called "Spooky."
ReplyDeleteThe Air Force knew the AC-47D as Spooky, it's airborne call sign. The US ground pounders were the ones that called it Puff.
DeleteMust have been insane scary on the receiving end. At least you got the tracers streams to go by.
