And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I almost had that same thing happen to me! I was camping just under a ridge line and I had no idea there was a strong wind breaking over the top from the other direction (it was quiet). I picked up the tent by the top center, turned it upside down to shake it out...and came close to being lifted right off the ground! Tents are like ballutes, they will take you straight away from everything you love and respect!
I was waiting for the second guy's tent to lift off after he got out...

ReplyDeleteAlways stake down your tent... Always. You never know when the wind will blow.

ReplyDeleteWe always used tent stakes. Hefty ones. Never had this problem.
ReplyDeleteHard to pound tent stakes in solid rock. Simple solution is to put your backpack in the tent before you walk away from it. Or find a couple big rocks.
DeleteOr even smarter - Don't pitch your tent on rock.
DeleteSome folks learn from their mistakes... then others are just too stupid.
ReplyDeleteJohn, in the high country that is often impossible.
ReplyDeleteThese never get old!
