And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Looks like an NS 500, GP bike, close to last year prior to going from 2 stroke to 4 stroke bikes. Pretty amazing power, raw kind, considerably lighter weight bikes too, lot different than 4 stroke power, you needed to be really really smooth, raced the 250's, just gads of fun, super fast mostly cause they handled so well, nothing like the 500 beasts. The fast guys are really fast, on another level.
Kenny Roberts won at a mile track (maybe San Jose?) with a Yamaha 4 cylinder two stroke, and he was very relieved that they instantly banned them. Handling was a bit ...lacking. The other riders were a bit annoyed that he was throwing a fair bit of the track surface at them while spinning the rear wheel on the straight. IIRC, he complained that the tire never stopped spinning on the track.

ReplyDeleteTamiya 1/12 scale Honda NSR500 - Mick Doohan - 1999
ReplyDeleteI recall the initial use of two strokes on flat track, took a fine hand.
ReplyDeleteWatched a 750 Kawa 2 stroke at golden gate fields miler back about 1972-73. No one could keep up on the straight away, turns were another thing.
DeleteI still have a Bultaco Astra 350 in the barn.
