And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
The twisted handle adjustable wrench can be pretty early. The first wrenches weren't made until after the first steel was produced in the US in the 1840s. Before that all tools were imported from England or Euorope. I've collected a couple of hundred early wrenches over the years from tiny 3" to 24" railroad wrenches. The red handle pipe wrench on the left is from the 40s or 59s and is fairly common. Interestingly the first wrenches were made to twist bars out of Castle window s during a seige. Bubbarust

Nice composition. Looks like a few transmission gears were sacrificed to create it.

That destroyed counter gear looks out of a Muncie or Saginaw. It's been a few years since I had one apart.
ReplyDeleteSomebody threw a monkey wrench into the works.
