And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

And some Colonel had the bright idea to load a thick steel plate beneath. Yeah we were overloaded. That's not all. The steel plate slid aft taking out a couple of hold downs. The jeep rolled aft crushing three guys. Poor Joes never had a chance. At least they weren't around for the crash. Only four of us made it out. One being that fat assed Colonel.
That's a movie scene from Saving Private Ryan that you're misquoting. In the scene the glider pilot claims the steel plate was welded onto the floor of a wooden glider!!!! The movie also has the Tiger tank being knocked out by a P51's .50 machine guns so I would hardly use it as a reference. Al_in_Ottawa
Actually, it came from my imagination. I imagined that, in typical wartime fashion, all kinds of material was loaded onto gliders. Some not meant to be. And a jr officer who cares not for aircraft w&b pulling rank.
The steel plate and shifting cargo came from an event in a friend's aircraft upon rotation.
Seriously, they are going to turn that in that doorway? I wonder what the pilots think about this.
