And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I bought a Thorens TD 124 at a garage sale for a dollar. Still in the original box. Differant plinth though. Sold it for over 700 bucks on ebay probably 10 years ago. Now they go for over 2 grand.
Just wanted to say that I love these audio posts. And, a TD 124 for a dollar? I'm jealous. I spent several years going to garage sales and checking Audio Sales sites looking for a Thorens of any type, or something similar, for my son. Finally told my wife I was giving up, and, on my last day, found a TD 166 in mint condition for $100(obviously nothing like a TD 124). The dustcover was perfect. The woman told me it had "hardly ever been played." My son has had it for more than 10 years. Anyway--keep it up with these posts.
I sold my TD124 on Ebay some years back. I think I got $400. It was starting to corrode and was not really usable. Needed a new motor and lots of work. I owned it since nearly new. It really was not a great turntable. Heavy platter, but the rubber disk drive produced some rumble. I replaced it with a Technics 1210 MK5. Much happier.
Replacement tubes come from Russia.

ReplyDeleteThat is however, a very, very nice audio setup. Something quite spectacular about vintage high end equipment.
