And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
But only if it is CLEAR. The older, clear ones are thick borosilicate glass - practically indestructible and quite heat resistant. The blue-green tinge in the photo above shows that it is soda glass. Soda glass is far less stabile in the face of temperature changes. Some years back, a Chinese company bought the Pyrex name and started making soda glass imitations. Sure, it has the Pyrex name, but it doesn't last at all like the older stuff. So, look for the clear ones! They do still make them of borosilicate glass, primarily for the European market, but you can find them new occasionally.
We've had one of those (and a one cup sized one) for decades. We use them almost daily.
ReplyDeleteMe too, but they have the worst pour spouts ever.
DeleteVery handy.
ReplyDeleteIf you find one at a yardsale, BUY it!

ReplyDeleteThere is supposed to be a difference between "Pyrex'(capitalized) and 'pyrex'(all lower case). Good info on the color difference.
