  3. But only if it is CLEAR. The older, clear ones are thick borosilicate glass - practically indestructible and quite heat resistant. The blue-green tinge in the photo above shows that it is soda glass. Soda glass is far less stabile in the face of temperature changes. Some years back, a Chinese company bought the Pyrex name and started making soda glass imitations. Sure, it has the Pyrex name, but it doesn't last at all like the older stuff. So, look for the clear ones! They do still make them of borosilicate glass, primarily for the European market, but you can find them new occasionally.

    1. There is supposed to be a difference between "Pyrex'(capitalized) and 'pyrex'(all lower case). Good info on the color difference.
