Shasta Snow

Sun Bowl, and a very craggy, snow blasted ridge in the distance

Stable snow lower elevations below Avalanche Gulch, at about 8100'

Small natural avalanche at Sun Bowl, near Green Butte.

  1. Wow- and I complain when we get about 3-4 inches…

    1. Shasta is a bit over 14k tall. It milks the snow out of the air like nothing else around. I noticed last week that the Shasta Dam managers are beginning to let more water out and down river to make room for this snow when it melts.

  2. Shasta is a wonderful resource for water, wildlife, recreation and just beautiful. It is shameful that the greens were successful in blocking smaller dams in the unusable sections of the watershed. Now, all these years later the price is being paid.

Still, thanks for the photos and Happy New Year.
