Oregon is sending 60 trucks to help fight the LA fires, but first....

  2. Having worked with as a CERT volunteer for over 15 years and participated in two fire camps at Irvine Regional park I can tell you the inspections are to ensure the equipment arrives AND returns in good condition. It is not just an inspection. Mechanics are available to fix what they find. No department is going to send their equipment if it breaks down or does not come back. Those big rigs are use to short local runs, not 400 mile plus journeys. When California sends equipment to other State, they get the same treatment.

    From the article-
“Over the past five years or so here in Oregon, we’ve seen historic wildfire seasons and California has been up here every year assisting us with protecting homes and containing those fires,” said Lane County Fire Defense and Mohawk Valley Fire Chief Steven Wallace. “This is our opportunity to return that favor when Oregon’s out of fire season and not seeing those large fires, to go help our neighbors to the south.”

    1. The municipal government equivalent to holding a "junk on the bunk" inspection before plugging a reserve infantry battalion into the front line. Next, you're gonna say they had to destroy the village in order to save it.

    2. Gee, what happened to idiotic EV requirements? Nobody gives a rats patootee about truck inspections when a fire is raging, trust me, been there, got the t-shirt. Time to Reset every level of government moronic foolsihness because this is one prime example of justification for policymakers and their policies and regulations all under the guise of “safety”. Get the hay outta the way and let those who know what to do get er done. Nah, can’t have that…so they hamstring everything they see and touch with their corrupt mentality.

    3. I am not a fan of Gov. Newsom. The failure to recall him was the final straw that caused me to leave California. That is NO REASON to attach the Mutual Aid System that has severe to fight Western wild fire for so many years. Too bad many commenters could be bothered to read the article.

There are many reasons to hate California government. Just find a valid one.

  3. If our governor had any balls, she would have ordered all sixty of those trucks and their crews back and tell califrutipia to stuff it and burn, baby, burn. Oh, and block every highway, road, goat trail into Oregon to any fire refuges. But, we know she doesn't have balls...

    1. That would be a truly horrible thing to do to your neighbours, balls or no balls.

  4. Is there any point of sending firefighters and trucks when there is no water at the hydrants?

  5. If I was sending fire trucks to CA and California required to have them checked for proper use I would refuse to send them or people.

  7. This is one place in government where Gavin Newsom could step up and waive the requirement in order to get the equipment on the front line ASAP. The fact that he is not doing this shows what a poor leader he is and this should be remembered when this ambitious no-talent hack makes his run against JD in 2028.

  8. But they promised everyone that DEI and their Democracy would keep everyone safe and healthy. They passed laws that made insurance companies drop fire insurance. They allowed trillions of acre feet in water to flow needlessly into the pacific to save an invasive fish. They legalized homelessness and subsidize it for their personal gain. This is not incompetence it is intentional.

    1. How exactly is that having an all white fire department would help avoid fires? Do white firefighters have some sort of "magic" property that makes dry plants non-flammable?
I'm not sure I understand your logic.

    2. Not about all white, about competency. No one cares - or should care - ones sex, proclivities, or ancestry as long as the person can do the job as described, and without political bent or able to be swayed by grifters.

  10. $100 bet that the trucks will have to pass an CA emissions test
before they are allowed to drive to a cataclysmic fire.

    1. 100% BS but since when do we allow small details like "the truth" getting in the way of making people angry?
Some people only care about making others angry/afraid an stuff like this offer a perfect opportunity to do both.

  13. Everybody bitching about this didn't read the details in the article linked at X in the OP.
    Thanks for self-identifying.

We had new and well-maintained military trucks break down on a 130-mile trip from Pendleton to 29 Palms.
    Pretty much all of them.

Fire trucks aren't used to doing 600-mile trips, one-way.
    Ever.

So you check on them to make sure they're going to complete the journey, and buff and fluff any problems.

Nothing would be more useless than 60 broke-dick fire trucks scattered along I-5 from the Oregon border to L.A., or broken down amidst a raging brush fire.

    File this under "Duh."
