One Of Just Two CL-415 Super Scooper Planes Taken Out Of Palisades Fire Fight By Drone

 Lovely.  More idiots in action.

A drone’s collision with a water-dropping aircraft fighting the Palisades fire in Los Angeles caused temporary grounding of all aircraft working that fire and took out one of just two amphibious planes capable of repeatedly scooping 1,600 gallons of water from the ocean and delivering it onto nearby flames, Cal Fire told The War Zone.

A Canadair CL-415 Super Scooper turboprop plane smashed into a drone around 10 a.m. local time, Cal Fire spokesman Chris Thomas told The War Zone.

The drone was flying despite a Temporary Flight Restriction TFR imposed by the FAA over the area from Jan. 9 to Jan. 23 to prevent any aircraft, manned or drone, from interfering with firefighting efforts. The drone was being flown by a photographer taking video of the flames, the LA Times reported.

“It’s a federal crime, punishable by up to 12 months in prison, to interfere with firefighting efforts on public lands,” the FAA said in a statement. “Additionally, the FAA can impose a civil penalty of up to $75,000 against any drone pilot who interferes with wildfire suppression, law enforcement or emergency response operations when temporary flight restrictions (TFRs) are in place. The FAA treats these violations seriously and immediately considers swift enforcement action for these offenses. The FAA has not authorized anyone unaffiliated with the Los Angeles firefighting operations to fly drones in the TFRs.”

This guy needs to be made an example of, as do the people who have been caught lighting fires.

  1. People need their Instagram fixes. They also caught an arsonist but haven't released the name. Probably a crimmigrant.

    1. Or a drug-addled, unhoused cull.

    2. Here’s the arsonist who was arrested for allegedly starting the Kenneth Fire, which has burned 800+ acres of Los Angeles

Are we about to find out these fires are being set by illegal migrant gangs with the intent of looting?

  3. But my RIGHTS! I have the God given right to fly my drone anywhere I want without restrictions or government interference!
Since when do we trust BIG GOVERNMENT to tell us what/when/where to do stuff? Is this a free country?

    Oh the irony....

  4. Here we have our trusty Ghostsniper starting/believing the latest conspiracy theory. It never fails.

California is burning. The investigation as to who/how the fire started has not even started but our resident conspiracy theorist is already proposing his own stupid theories. Illegal migrants did it!
Is it possible that illegal migrants started the fire? Yes. It is also possible that the fire was started by a lighting, a cigarette butt, a car, electrical infrastructure, fireworks, exploding e-bike, a glass bottle, jewish space lasers, aliens, godzilla or one of the Game of thrones dragons and a million other things that could have created a spark that could light dry vegetation... It happens EVERY year since 1776.

We have no idea what/how started the fires. Ghostsniper has no idea of what/how started the fire. The smart/intelligent thing to do is wait until the fire has been controlled, the investigation has concluded and then MAYBE we will know what happen. But we all know that people like ghostsniper are neither smart or intelligent.

    1. You've got to be pretty naive to think all these fires are accidental. Ghostsniper provided a video, looks like a foreigner to me. Go ahead and wait for the FBI coverup, er uh govt. investigation, you can read all about it in WaPo and NYT then.

    2. So, are you saying there weren't any fires before 1776?

  5. If the authorities actually know who was flying the drone (and it does sound like they do), this guy needs to get the full hammer. If there's any way to stack charges (multiple flights = multiple offenses) do it. Put him away for as many years as possible, federally, and beggar him with fines. Do it with huge publicity: this is what will happen if you are caught.... Then do it again. And again. Put away a couple of 16 year olds. The way to end this drone stupidity is to make the odds of getting caught high and the penalties awe inspiring.
