I hear tell using these takes about 15% of the strain off your knees.

  1. My wife and I do a lot of hiking. Always have. We are in our mid seventies. But we have used hiking poles for some years now. The Adirondacks can get gnarly at times.

  2. I've used CMT hiking poles for many years. I've been very pleased with them.

  3. I don’t know percentages, but i know that hiking in the mountains is made much more enjoyable for me, and my stamina is also increased, by using such poles.

  4. Flying a P-51 or Spitfire (previous post) takes 90% of the strain on your knees. Forget the poles.

  5. I always use trekking poles when backpacking, but have started not using the wrist loops since I startled a feral pig/boar in the Cohutta last year and found it severely impeded my ability to draw my pistol. Fortunately the critter took of away from me, but had he not, I dont think lightweight aircraft aluminum sticks and harsh language were going to be enough deterrent.
