And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Alfa Romeo has made some fine machines. If only I thought I could keep one running.
As I've said before, I had five. I never had one let me down but they generally needed something done. That was all part of the hobby at the time. I was single, had a short commute and made good money. The one I kept the longest was burning oil at about 55K. The cliche at the time was that ALFA owners knew how to maintain their cars but the Porsche guys had to put their cars in the shop for anything but a wash and wax.
Alfaholics in England sells re-engineered parts, including the entire wiring harness that eliminates pesky 50 year old gremlins. Have your serial number and credit card ready. Here's a stepnose in action racing against 427 powered Fords. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLcB-EoggVI Al_in_Ottawa
A mate went on about how special they are and eventually bought one. He kept a philips head screw driver in the glovebox to tighten loose trim but its was reliable. The dream came to an end one day when an old bloke in a Nissan Maxima (a V6 Jap family car that was pretty good in the day) easily kept up around the local twisty road.
A Stepnose GTV is pretty simple, especially with carburetion instead of SPICA fuel injection. A well sorted one is a reliable machine
ReplyDeleteTheir value drops dramatically by the time they are 3 or 4 years old. There are a lot of used cars that average an owner per year. I see red flags.

We had a ‘67 Veloce when we lived in Italy (back in the day). Great car but those Webber carbs were a colossal pain in the keester.
