And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Paul-Charles Chocarne-Moreau (1855-1931) “The Unexpected Surprise”
Another artist I had no knowledge of before now. The series of works by painters and illustrators really deserves its own category; I've learned much because of it. And here is a bit of knowledge about that artist if anyone needs it:

I remember encountering a chimney sweep in Portland, OR who had been pictured in National Geographic the previous year. He didn't look too happy.
