Authorities in the city of Bend, Oregon are looking for the hero who's been improving their modern art with googly eyes

Despite the improvements donated without cost to the city, the government in Bend is demanding that the art improver cease and desist and that if anyone has any information regarding the artist's identity, they rat out the genius.

Here's what the city had to say on Facebook:

We love our roundabout art in Bend, so let's do our part to take care of it.

While the googly eyes placed on the various art pieces around town might give you a chuckle, it costs money to remove them with care to not damage the art.

While we don't condone the wreaths, leis and Santa hats, let's stay away from adhesives, graffiti, and all things that can damage the art.

You "Public Servants" might love the art, but not everyone thinks like you.

The city claims that the googly eyes have cost $1500 so far. Apparently that's how much it costs to remove the adhesive goo gleefully holding the eyes in place.

How much did it cost the taxpayers to put that "Art" up in the first place?  How much to maintain every year (absurdly exaggerated googly eye removal costs ignored, of course)?

Of course the internet had thoughts about the whole affair:

Hahaha!

  1. Actually pretty good for tourism. Folks would travel a piece to view this 'vandalism'.

  3. I drove through Bend a few months ago and when I saw all the metal sculptures all over the place, I thought "I'm glad I'm not a taxpayer here."

  4. $1500? hmm, let's look at that. The city website has a listing for general laborer.

If the income number used is $49,000, that figures to $26 per hour, that's $208 per day. Add the city vehicle insurance cost, let's use the number of $150 per month, divided by 20 days is $7.50 per day. Figure the cost of supplies at $20 for the eye removal-cleaning solvent, whatever. Throw in another $200 for anticipated vehicle maintenance and sundry. Their claim gets a 20 yard penalty for BS.

  5. I had about a 15 year gap on my trips through Bend. Last time through I couldn't believe how bad that place de-volved.

  6. We used to have giant ant sculptures at the Palm Beach International. They were there for years, then all the sudden they were gone. I kinda miss them :-(

  7. The roundabout seems to be located in Bend. That's Oh-Rag-On... (aka the State of Oregon). That West Coast state is filled with Cali-fornicated individuals who are painfully liberal and have not a clue what the real world is all about. Roundabouts are horrible.

  8. If they hate the eyes, wait until this brilliant Civic Improver discovers the toy aisle at the local adult novelty shop!
