There's been some excitement. Note the empty brass on the "hood."

  1. That is my very good buddy, Garry Hall (Vincennes, Indiana), from US Marine Corps Charlie Company, 3rd Tank Battalion, on "Operation Pegasus" in 1968 where we opened up South Vietnamese Route 9 from Camp Carroll to Khe Sahn.

    2. Are those burns on his back?

    3. No, I am guessing that they are creases from his USMC flak jacket. He got too hot in it and was dripping with sweat.

    4. I just noticed a USMC flak jacket on the left front fender of the tank. That was probably Garry's that he took off and left there.

    1. Close country, for sure, bad spot, with good light infantry, you could hide a whole company in the bush along that road never see them till they open up on you.

    2. And the gooks did in fact, hide in the bush all along that road. The spent brass is from Garry firing his /50 cal. into the bush in an action called, "Reon by Fire." What worked even better was firing the 90 mm cannon with a "canister" round. It was 1,200 .38-cal. sized slugs that blasted out like a huge shotgun.
