I'd read "Old Tales Retold," but likely not "Practical Arithmetic."

  1. The very best math book I have ever come across is, Mathematics For Industry, by S.E. Rusinoff.
It is the only math textbook I've kept.

Everything, except possibly orbital science, is there. But how to solve, deduce, induct; there is the magic. The book is a guide, with ample proofs to ascertain you're in the right way, for how to drive nigh any answer to any problem. Veritably doubly worth it's weight in gold.

    2. Over the years there were times I was so proud of myself for deriving a solution to a complex problem. In each instance I found the exact solution in that book. I hadn't discovered something new, only something new to me.

  2. I have copies of both books courtesy of Gutenberg. Interesting reading on a cold and rainy night.

  3. Our modern technological society was built by people who chose Practical Arithmetic over Old Tales Retold.
