And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Nice Collection
I'm still carrying that Queen Barlow. Hard not to get attached to a fine pocketknife.
I wish I could join the club but I have to carry my TL-29 or a clone. The screwdriver blade is just so handy. Today's kids can't identify but I carried a knife from the third grade. The only thing any teacher ever said was, "If I see it, it's mine." The same thing they said about marbles. This was the fifties in Chattanooga and suburban Atlanta schools.
My Grandfather (Mom's side, b. 1892) would take me to the general store every time we would visit and get me a pocket knife. His reasoning was that every boy should carry a pocket knife at all times. Of course, my Mother would immediately confiscate it, but he would do it again the next time. She started sending them to me on my birthdays when I was about 30. They were all the same type, 2 blades with a bottle opener/flat screwdriver and a can opener. Some were Kamp King and some were Forest Master but pretty much the type available at any general store for $2 or so. I still have one as a letter opener and remember my WWI veteran Grandfather every time I use it.
I had that same barlow as a boy, 55 years ago. a Schrade with multi tone bone handles. Eventually the main blade snapped. I think it’s still in a drawer somewhere at my mom’s house.
I am too much a knifaholic to have only ONE EDC carry. Barlow is a heavy duty (heavy bolster provides strength) and a good choice for heavy use. Maybe a bit heavy for pocket carry for an office worker. One knife I like is a Farmer's jack, a long slim handled slip joint. Letter opener - string cutter - package opening.
I have a boatload of knives and watches, my carries after decades are a seiko solar military and a SAK ALOX Cadet that I sharpened the nail fiie to a punch awl.
I have a decent small collection of Case knives. Never leave home without one or more. I just bought a buffalo horn handle mini trapper and it’s a thing of beauty.
HA HA! Just think of the havoc you’ll cause!!! Shoot, you might even clean somebodies fingernail!!! A very nice set of knives, i esp like the buck 703 that birdchaser mentioned. I have a small toolbox with just pocket knives in it ‘cause its just hard not to pick one up when you find a deal. I esp like the old school american steel knives. like alot of you i change up my EDC regularly because i like them all. usually its a kershaw ken onion with serrated blade as its all one handed use, but the boker speedlock is fun. check out the Camillus military US pocket knife. also the buck 110 is now an automatic but they aint cheap.
I have that exact Cub Scout knife 3rd from right. It belonged to my late Uncle Jack who did 2 tours in Nam directing artillery fire and had a Bronze Star with 2 OLC's and an Air Medal for work in an L19 Birdog.
my EDC is a Case canoe

ReplyDeleteI have a Swiss Army knife with the 1" blade. So dangerous they won't let me take it on a plane.
