  1. The major flaw was the Lucas wiring and fuel injection.

  2. The early C-Types had twin SU carburetors while the later ones had triple Webers.
    You can't blame the wiring on Lucas, they made switches, lights, relays and motors but not wiring. Rolls-Royce used Lucas components and Lucas was a major manufacturer of aircraft electric components for the RAF through WWII and into the '80s.

  3. Speaking of English gauges, in the 60's Road & Track there was a picture of a British fighter instrument panel with the caption, "Smith's gauges that work"

    2. I worked for the aerospace division of Smiths until we were acquired by GE in 2007. It was always fun to see the logo pop up on dashboards in old British movies.
