  1. Works good on straight wood but not so good on the warped and twisted green wood they sell now.

  2. A torpedo level is for close in work, not long boards. Still, one could run a taut string to gauge a crooked board.

    Stupifying silly, I've seen 'professional' carpenters use a torpedo to, say check plumb on a 6x6" 16' post. Masons are famous for that degree of precision.

  3. the one for conduit work is more versatile. Johnson makes a good one (got one on our refrigerator door presently) as does Klein.

  4. torpedoes are good for quick estimations or lengths of pipe but certainly not for large scale construction. in essence you're only leveling/plumbing the size of the level anyhow.
