And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

That GoPro might get in the way of something important, like refueling.
GoPro videos are the average Joe's Social Media highway to stardom heaven. They're also the toll road to hell if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Question: What are the "rear view mirror shaped" devices attached to the tubular brackets on each side of the nose? I assume they might be floodlights to assist with landing, but that's a wild guess on my part.
Not to worry. The only part of the boom that matters is the very tip. https://youtu.be/r5DF6vQnwXI?t=53
If they mounted the GoPro on the main retracting boom anywhere just back of that, they could refuel in-flight and film the drogue coming around the field of view, easy peasey.
It would only be a problem if it snagged on the fuel line drogue. Which would mainly lead to "Bye bye, GoPro."
But I'm assuming they did this on a mission where in-flight refueling wasn't in the profile.

ReplyDeleteGood question.
DeleteThat's an MH-53 minesweeper variant. The mirrors allow the pilots to monitor
Deletethe towed mine countermeasures sled.
All right, thank you!
DeleteFlugelman - Thanks for the info. I've noticed those things on some MH-53's going over my house in the past and always wondered what they were.
DeleteThey're rear-view mirrors!
DeleteIt’s there for the Pinochet videos
