And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I had one long ago; correct, does not attract mosquitos unless you bought/concocted some kind of appropriate bait. Yes, it does kill other kinds of bugs, which drew little lizards in to eat the bbq’d bugs. Always got everyone’s attention when a lazy lizard crossed the line—loud zapping and sizzling noises, to which everyone would turn and see the glowing skeleton.
For serious mosquitos take a look at the Mosquito Magnet, it works. We have had great results with the Thermacell Portable Mosquito Repeller for small areas like cocktail/sunset at the lake pier or at a picnic table in a park.
EDIT: We had one of those bug zappers near our inground swimming pool in Pennsylvania for many summers. The rather large pile of dead bugs underneath it was always amazing to me.
Attached a weatherproof electrical box to a deck beam and ran two one hundred foot extensions out to a large old cherry tree and hung a similar one of these off a limb; never had one bug on the deck enjoying the BBQ or us, though we had several bats flying in and around that tree.
UV light does not attract mosquito and these devices do not work well for them. But it will kill all the other bugs, reducing the wild birds' food.

I'm old school mosquito coil, if that doesn't work I go inside. A couple placed around the deck usually does it.
ReplyDeleteBest place to put one is in your neighbors yard. Draws the bugs away from you.
ReplyDeletenoticed we had more bugs after we put one of these up. the dang thing kinda makes itself useful ?
ReplyDeleteKills beneficial chameleons and small lizards too.
