And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
My dad was a colonel in the USAF. One day he came home with a buddy, another USAF colonel who lived nearby. The buddy had just won an Avanti and offered to let me drive it. I was 17 and a sophomore in high school. Of course, I took the keys, drove it for about an hour and brought it back home. What a ride!!!
I can never see an Avanti without thinking of my friend John. Lost him about this time of the year nine years ago. I met him in college, a rich kid but no airs about him. His father as a judge, mine was a welder. We became fast friends.
John was having a '55 Thunderbird restored. He had an Avanti for a while. I was with him blowing down the highway when the water pump shit the bed. He nursed it to the garage. He also had a '38 Chevrolet sedan with a Corvette engine in it. Boy we surprised a few people with that. I miss him.
A boss car. Too bad Studebaker couldn't keep it going.
