Cliff side houses at Wangxian Valley

  1. I guess that must be easier than carving caves out of the cliff face, but dang...I'd think it would be easier to find somewhere else to live!

  3. Every time I see something like this, a house sitting on the side of a cliff or a monastery perched on the tip of some crag I wonder just how they were able to build there to begin with. Hauling materials up sheer cliff walls or over snow and ice covered mountain passes and then workmen hanging by ropes and assembling all of it into something liveable and often beautiful is a testement to human ingenuity and persistence.

    Also, living at the lower levels while your upper level neighbors are pouring out the night buckets give a very real emphasis to "upper" and "lower" classes. I hope they stagger the arrangement to allow for "seepage" to pass by rather than puddle on the veranda though it looks to me like there is definite overlap for some of them.
