  1. Had a carpooling three-way rotation. I had a '65 Ford Galaxie 500 390 300hp straight shift. Another guy had a '64 Ford Galaxie 500 352 automatic. Car three was one of those. LIke a motorcycle with a body.

  2. My buddy in high school drove a SAAB 96. V-4. Neat car. His dad was the EE dept chairman at Texas Tech. He drove a SAAB Sonet, I think his mom did too.

They had a straight 8 Hudson behind the barn. Could climb Pike's Peak in high gear, and could make a U-turn at speed with no issues. Some kind of automatic camber adjustment IIRC.

  3. I had a '79 SAAB 900 that I purchased while stationed in West Germany. U.S. autos were difficult to get serviced, with a long wait if you ordered one. I did not want "The World's Fastest Tractor" a Volvo. Great car the 900. I could cruise down the Autobahn at 100+ MPH with ease. I totaled it one day back here in the States when I fell asleep and ran a red light (Long story behind that). I had just a few bumps and bruises.

  4. Weren't the early ones 2-cycle? I seem to remember those sounding a bit like a chain saw and leaving a trail of blue smoke.....

  5. When I was stationed in Rota, Spain. A LOT of Officers had diesel Saabs.
....Because the Navy supplied free (or low cost) #2 fuel oil for their oil heaters in their on base housing.
