And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? Actually, there were five of Grandpa's coffin cars made.
ReplyDeleteAll George Barris custom jobs, they are scattered all over the place. The last came up for auction last year.

Real coffin, btw, and real dragster parts.
Believe it or not but I still have models of both of those that I put together 50yrs ago sitting on my bookshelf.
ReplyDeleteI recently bought the Revell "Mysterion" (Ed "Big Daddy" Roth) model and will put it together over the winter. It was rare and pricey (+$50). Back in the 60's, the first time I put it together, it was about $3.
Deletethe one i built in the 60's was ended in a spectacular crash off the back porch. damm.
DeleteOne of the guys from "American Pickers" met Barris in one episode and he was able to purchase one of those cars from him. I can't remember which one though.
ReplyDeleteEddie Munster has one and shows it
ReplyDeleteRob Zombie had a song about it:

ReplyDeletepulled the trigger too fast- "named Grandpa's". Al hawked business from the sidewalk.
DeleteI'm betting Al wanted that photo session over most quickly.
ReplyDeleteThey have a "Monster bash" here in P.A. every year and that coffin dragster has been at several. Eddie was there as well. I met him nice guy. Had prostate cancer at that time. I believe he made full recovery.
