Pounding snow at the base of Shasta right now

  1. Readerboards south of Redding said I5 is supposed to be closed to tractor trailers because of winter snow. On line indicates ok for 4x4 with traction tires; however, it is closed to all traffic and CalTrans at the road block said it was because of multiple tractor trailer accidents on the northbound lanes. Southbound traffic is still zipping downhill.×

  2. It's been snowing just like that over Donner Summit all day and amazingly enough the road is still open.

CalTrans has improved their webcam system and installed lots of new cameras. Unfortunately, the northernmost camera on I-5 is in Williams. And the only camera on all of Highway 70 (the Feather River Canyon and Beckwouth Pass) is in Marysville.

The cameras are relaxing to watch during storms. Especially since I had to drive those roads before I retired and now don't have to deal them any more. Nice.

    1. tripcheck(dot)com from Oregon has webcams all over the Siskiyou grade on I-5, clear down to Mt. Shasta City, Weed, and Yreka.

    2. I tried and could only come up with photos, not videos. Maybe I did something wrong. I'll keep trying.

  3. I don't want to have anything to do with weather like that.
