  5. Yep. Typically requires moving a ton of dirt to get 10 pounds of pure copper. And that's decent grade ore. Not all ore is as rich. All the EASY to mine ores have already been pulled out of the earth. Now to get the metals we need we have to move literal mountains of earth.
