And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I think this is the seasonal soft ice cream store just north of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, on SR 3 (aka Wooster Rd). I drive by it at least once a day. Before I retired, I drove past it twice a day.
The top of the cone, the ice cream part used to be chocolate.
Yep. It's now called Young's Drive In. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Young's+Drive-In/@40.4024528,-82.4815664,3a,75y,90t/data=!3m8!1e2!3m6!1sAF1QipOd2h9bBTfP-6PsohjTeJ2HBVM1fZDctLxcasgT!2e10!3e12!6shttps:%2F%2Flh5.googleusercontent.com%2Fp%2FAF1QipOd2h9bBTfP-6PsohjTeJ2HBVM1fZDctLxcasgT%3Dw397-h298-k-no!7i4160!8i3120!4m15!1m7!3m6!1s0x883834aaedeea7b7:0x7875bf0bc949e6d6!2sMt+Vernon,+OH+43050!3b1!8m2!3d40.3932283!4d-82.485436!3m6!1s0x8839cb5a2523a8a5:0x7f991c8c98868619!8m2!3d40.4024528!4d-82.4815664!14m1!1BCgIgAQ
When we lived in Maryville, Tn earlier in the century there was one of these still operating. I forget the name (along with most other things) but they were a local institution and sold great chili dogs. Lord, I miss Maryville, though I hear they've gone woke.
That looks precisely like my uncle's "sweet shop" in Shreve, Ohio! Or, at least, what it looked like 60 years ago...but you're right, sykes.1, this is Young's Drive-In, 206 Wooster Road, Mt. Vernon, Ohio.
There was a burger joint the size of a dog house on Rte 66 at the bottom of Cajon Pass that made the best burger you ever ate. Still remember after 60+ years.
Needs to get some lettering up there.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, I thought maybe Dairy Queen, but I don't recall that shade of blue used on their buildings.
ReplyDeleteNice old school treats, and the outdoor dining means less mess to clean up. May be a few yellowjackets and bees around the trash can out back.
Tastee Freeze.

It's closed for the season.

ReplyDeleteFun fact that nobody cares about: I was born in Wooster. That's "WUHS-ter", not "WOOS-ter", for all you non-Ohioans.
DeleteMy guess is a "TasteeFreeze". Here in Dallas they used to be all over the place.

ReplyDeleteThe Shake Pit in Bradenton, FL is a favorite.

I can almost taste the burger just looking at that picture.
