  1. Been there done that. Scanned tigers, lions, horses and all manner of house pets. Was an interesting client facility.

    1. Been on the receiving end of 3 or 4 MRIs, so I know the noise level is ... raucous.

Did you plug the ears of the critters? I do not see earplugs on this cat, but they may be there. I always preferred plugs, headphones, and light jazz playing, myself.

    3. Dan, Sounds like you performed a variety of procedures, but did you ever give an elephant a colonoscopy?

    4. I limit my endeavors to imaging. My experiences with colonoscopy have all been on the receiving side.

  2. I don't know what they used to sedate him, but if it came in six packs, nobody would leave the house. Just sit in a chair, staring at a ceiling fan.

    1. There are a number of meds used by vets to sedate animals. Ketamine is an old standby plus there are others !ike Trazadone and Acepromazine. Once sedated and paralyzed they are intubated and kept under using Isofluorane or a similar gas. Anesthesia for large animals has a lot in common with anesthesia for humans.

  3. Looks like they might have put the machine on 'paws' to take the picture, though

  4. did a mri on a big cat like that once. took almost all day. open unit back in the 1990's like 6 or more guys carried him in. spent like a hour setting everything up and then scanning. another half hour to get him out and loaded on to a truck to go back to the zoo. one of my better days doing mri. of course had to spend the rest of the day cleaning the unit out. cat shit stinks like crazy ! got paid well though.
