Unimog Expedition Team on the World's Highest Active Volcano -- other than the altitude, most of that I bet I could do with my Dodge.

  1. I went around Lake Claire in a 67 Pontiac Laurentian in the mid 80's, thru the bush. The look on that guys face driving the 4x4 was priceless.

  2. Doubt it with the Dodge, your weight distribution is all wrong.

  3. They look like they are being followed by a couple of HiLux Toyotas. If the Dodge is fuel injected, altitude won't be a problem. Just make sure the cooling system is sufficient for a high altitude trip.

  4. I worked cutting trails at Snowbird in 1971. The Swiss crew installing the tram had a Unimog that they drove up the mountain every morning and back down every afternoon. One day a buddy caught a ride up the hill. He said that it has 27 forward speeds with the lowest gear offering something like 300 meters per hour. Thats for the 10' diameter snow thrower on the front PTO. Those things can climb anything where they can get any traction at all.

    1. I drove one like that back in 1970 at an underground mine I worked at. It also had a forward/reverse so it had 27 in reverse also. You could walk faster than it moved in low/low.

  5. What is the point of the spare tire mounted way out in front like that and being there one minute and gone the next? Was that for some kind of center of gravity relocation or something? And where the hell did they put them when they weren't mounted out there?

    1. Leverage, can aid in front axle traction, also help prevent an end over if it was a concern, mostly traction.

  6. Most of there "off road" footage, they were already following others tracks.
