And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? Captain Walter “Waddy” Young and his crew pose in front of their caricatures on their B-29 Superfortress , November 24, 1944.
A bit off topic, but did you know that Clark Gable went to England with the 351st Bombardment Group? See "Air Combat" at You Tube. A recent American Rifleman had a picture of him in a B-17 gunner's position. Wikipedia: "Gable spent two years as an aerial cameraman and bomber gunner in Europe during World War II."
for the most incredible nose art I've come across in the years of looking at WW2 bombers and fighters, here's my collection posted to a facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Nose-Art-WW2-aircraft-1111861348900582
notice in the painting, there is a dog by the wagon's front wheel. He was the airplanes mascot, his name was Damit. For 2 more photos of this plane and crew, but in black and white: https://justacarguy.blogspot.com/search?q=waddy%27s+wagon
Today in 2021 that would probably offend someone.
ReplyDeleteOf course it would. Bunch of straight, white men! What could be more offensive?
