Very interesting, thank you.
When I visited in 2008 I saw a guard nearly tear one teenage goth chick a new hole after she kept making raspberries during the changing ceremony. After she ignored several orders to maintain silence and respect two guards miraculously appeared next to her and she was escorted from the premises.
I would have paid to see that.
It was accompanied by light, but enthusiastic, applause.
Useless ceremonial swamp dwellers.
Still mad at your parents, huh?
My natural distaste for bloated government programs results from anger at my parents. Got it.
Your name is Dick isn't it?
There always seems to be one person willing to piss in his cheerios just to appear "woke".
He says of the soldiers who protect the sacred ground of the men who died to protect his right to babble vitriolic nonsense.
Children, no matter the age, should be seen (and very little) and not heard. You seem to be suffering from poor parenting, that's why you have very few friends and spend your days venting in blogs.
Looks like you won the Vet commenter's unpopularity contest, Anon. And rightfully so. In the future I suggest you engage your brain before putting your mouth in drive.
I have gone several times. I get verklempt everytime.
Good book: "On Hallowed Ground: The Story of Arlington " by Robert Poole. Takes you from the Civil War to today. Worth reading and rereading.
Yep. Montgomery Meigs sure knew how to hold a grudge.
Once the Posleen figured out what ANC was, they knew they were screwed...
I see what you did there.
Threshkreen wouldn’t quit.
Thanks for this one CW
We believe, based upon regimental records, that my gg grandfather's brother, who died at Second Bull Run, is an unknown buried in a mass grave near Arlington House.
OK, here's a little background. I did 25 years in the Army. Two tours in Iraq. One in Bosnia and another 20 in the Pentagon as a civilian. I am scheduled to go back into the sandbox this summer. I was in ANC to remove wreaths after Christmas this year. I have been reading this blog for years and I'm a fan. I am only slightly irritated by mindless jingoisms and bumpersticker politics. I expect it from some circles but always I have a low tolerance for it. Not a single person buried in ANC "died for my freedom of speech". Not one. It wasn't at issue in any war where that cemetery was in use. Most of those buried there are not even war dead, just veterans who served honorably then died decades later of old age. Despite all the vets who had positive honorable service, it creates a blind spot for them in thinking that the DoD is not every bit as bloated bureaucracy and corrupt as every other part of the federal government. It is as ineffective as the Department of Education and it is 2 to 3 times the size it needs to be for any rational defense of our nation. I say this as someone who really truly knows what I am talking about, not just an angry teen who hates the military. My sympathy lies with those buried in ANC who died fighting communism, only to have their own countrymen embrace it at home and turn the government over to communists. Someday when I am dead and buried, I hope I am remembered for who I was and not as a caricature of "guy who died fighting for freedom".Y'all want to hate on me because I think about what I believe and don't just believe what is on the recruiting poster? OK. You think ceremonial troops are an essential element of national government? Fine. Put them in the parks department with the other performing artists.
You don't seem to get it. You're done here. You only get one chance to make a first impression.I'm sure you've heard that before. But you thought it didn't apply to your arrogant ass.
Posted as "Anonymous" you'll notice...
"Not one" huh. 400,000+ that served this country from the 1860s to present day. Not a single one. Better check yourself pal.
