T-38 amphibious light tank slung under a TB-3 bomber for maneuvers near Kiev in 1936. The tank served with the Red Army in the Winter War with Finland in 1940, but was unsuccessful due to its light armament and thin armor, which was easily penetrated by rifle and light machine gun fire (so what's the point?)

  1. The point was to have a scout and recon track that could get in, see what's going on, and then get out. And to guard columns of troops or supplies.

The belief that speed equals protection was strong in many countries light tanks, many whom were easily damaged or destroyed by rifle or mg fire from the side or rear.

  2. They could of hung the tank upside down and used it to assist in air defense, ground straffing, ya, sure.
