The one-eyed pirate cat is back

BC the stray pirate cat was back this morning - late - about 8:00 when I’d normally be at work.  I opened the door and shook the kibble bowl, and shockingly, he came running up with me standing right there.   He wouldn’t come right to me, but just a few feet away.

I set bowl down, went inside and Mrs. CW and I watched him from the back window.  He knew we were there, and kept an eye (snicker) on us, but was otherwise quite comfortable to eat while being stared at.

After loading up on delicious, nutritious kibble, he sauntered off into the bushes next to the neighbor’s fence.   He’s definitely got the idea of the kibble bowl shake, and I’m sure we’ll be able to call him in even if we don’t see him with the sound of bouncing kibble bits.

Since the most attractive of our female house cats disappeared mysteriously a while back, he hasn't come around as often, and I'm glad to see him and know that he's ok.

I'm gonna try and tame him, to the extent you can tame a barn cat.

  1. We had a feral cat turn up at our place about 5 years ago. Oddly enough, he was a black intact male with one eye. Skittery like yours here, we called him Shadow - Shad for short. Fed him, tamed him enough to pet. One day he was on his side chirping to me, so I crouched down to pet him...he grabbed my arm and ripped me to shreds! I was off to the clinic for a tetanus shot and antibiotic!
    Be careful, you!
BTW, coyotes got old Shad eventually...

    2. Heh...no, but I found some unmistakable remains one day, so I know how he turned out.

  2. I had a feral cat follow mine into the house through the cat-door. I grabbed that monster and gave him a field goal toss into the back yard. He bit me in the process, but I didn't think anything of it--just washed up. An hour later, my hand was throbbing, the size of a softball, and red streaks were running up my forearm. Off to ER it was. They gave me a script for Amoxicillin. I kind of pooh-pooed that idea, but I took it anyway. 24 hours later it was GONE! I've had a good deal of respect for antibiotics ever since, and cat bites are nothing to fool with!

  3. Good luck with that. I hope it will find a good home with you.

  4. I think his brother lives here in Chattanooga. Getting less shy as time goes on, I guess he appreciates being fed.

  5. Adopted two cats last summer, brother and sister, who were feral captures....vet estimated they 6-8 weeks old, and I got them about five weeks after that. It's been over a year, and the female STILL won't let me get close enough to pet her if I'm on my feet....but soon as I sit down in the recliner, she's on my lap, demanding to be petted...her brother is the opposite....he follows me around, flops around right at my feet, shows his belly, loves to rub on my legs, but hardly ever jumps up in my lap while I'm seated...they are socialized ONLY to me...they freak out and hide when the doorbell rings, they associate that with Bad People

    1. Rondo, is she a calico? I had a calico and it took her a long time to trust me. I now have a gray and white cat that was abandon and he follows me around like a dog. He's my buddy. In fact, that's the name I gave him, and he like most everyone that come visit me. I got lucky with that one.
