And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

A ship’s hull is repaired in dry dock in France, c. 1890
It's in a dry dock so there is no need for careening. I'm pretty sure that ship has fallen off the blocks. Its rigging is tangled up with the boat next to it.
Yes, and the yards have been set down and maybe the top hamper removed as well (difficult to tell from the angle if the remaining mast(s) are the same height)

ReplyDeleteI'd say careened, and the rigging seems to have been carefully arranged over the mast of the barge next to it.
