This is my America: Texas cheerleader, 17, jumps off her homecoming parade float to save a choking toddler in the crowd

  • A Texas high school cheerleader is being praised for her quick actions that saved a little boy's life
  • Tyra Winters, 17, was sitting on a float waving at the crowd during her school's homecoming parade when she heard a woman call for help
  • Tyra noticed a toddler in his mother's arms who was choking on a piece of candy
  • She jumped off her school's float and performed the Heimlich maneuver on the toddler who then spat up the food
  • The youngster, named Clarke, was able to breathe once again after Tyra's actions.

  1. Why is it that the Mom couldn't do the job??? Why did Tyra have to be the one to take charge and save the toddler's life?

Good on her for stepping up.

  2. Outstanding situational awareness on Tyra's part. What's with the pinky finger thing?
