And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
The MG-3 is quite possibly the best infantry machine gun ever made. I had a chance to fire both the MG-3 and the G-3 at a famfire with a fallschirmjager unit during an exercise in Czech in 1995. The thing is like a psychic weapon: you just put the front sight post on a target and the entire burst goes through an area the size of your hand at 300 yards. I was blown away by how much better it was than our M60s.
Interestingly, the PK (used by our Czech hosts) was next on the famfire list. That's the biggest hunk of shit I've ever squeezed a trigger on. Typical Russian export trash. You couldn't hit a truck at 300 yards with it. Oh, it'll fire forever, no doubt... it just won't hit anything.
Shot the MG3 as part of a "freundschaft" competition, great gun. I was fortunate to have the young sergeant invite me back to help expend the remaining ammo. Easily the best rifle-caliber GPMG in service, descended from one of the best ever. How we wound up with the M60 is both a mystery and a travesty. Guess the Bundeswehr had to be saddled with the G36 as compensation. Boat Guy
