Vineyard Fumigation Tractor, Bordeaux Wine-growing Region, France
The restrictions on using certain chemicals in the US was generally a good thing, but people don't realize that as American growers costs go up, cheaper produce from other countries may not have the same protections. I remember the Alar scare on apples years ago. Alar was a fungicide that prevented the growth a fungus that was about 100 times more carcinogenic than the Alar. But that's ok because it's "natural"

ReplyDeleteI visited a tobacco farm in Okinawa once, they were spraying the shit out everything with insecticides using a row crop applicator like that one.
ReplyDeleteI asked if the chemicals were somehow cleaned off the tobacco leaf at any point before making cigs.
"No, the curing process takes care of that."
