That's one impressive fireplace. The WWM has a very efficient wood burning fireplace with a blower and a 200 page operator's manual. But it's nowhere as cool as this one.
The old Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite Valley has a big one like that. An amazingly small fire in a well designed fireplace like that one radiates a surprisingly large amount of heat.
What you want is a Count Rumford fireplace. Its design maximizes the radiant heat derived from the flame. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rumford_fireplace
If you live someplace & have a fireplace like that you probably NEED it.
ReplyDeleteAfter my 13 year vacation in the upper mid-west I see real winters (like where you'd need that fireplace) as regularly scheduled natural disasters.
