Must have been cold out at sea

  1. Normally the crew chips the ice off the boat to keep it from accumulating and ultimately capsizing the craft. These guys are tougher than that.

  2. I had a student, a former commercial fisherman from Alaska, ask me this: “What state in the union purchased the most baseball bats?” I had no idea. He informed me that Alaska purchased the most baseball bats. Why? To pound off the ice so that, as LL rightly noted, the boats don’t get top-heavy and flip over. Apparently the bats are useful for knocking the ice off railings, etc.
