The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? Those are musk oxen. They taste alright. Not as tasty or juicy as reindeer, but good meat nonetheless.
Carrying a musk ox carcass back from a hunt is quite a challenge, though. I haven't tried it myself, but imagine carrying one of these beasts over 25 km of mountaineous terrain...
You'd need to take somebody along to sharpen the knives as you skin the carcass. The hide is tough and there's a lot of it. It's not like a deer where you hang it and almost rip the skin off.
At least they won't starve to death from tangled up antlers.

In far northernmost Canada, there's even a herd of white musk ox.
Predators are arctic wolves, and sometimes, for calves or infirm adults, grizzly bears and polar bears.
Musk ox are not bovines, but are related to goats.
There should be a liberal to get inbetween those two, to convince them that singing "kumbaya" is better than fighting.
