Belen Aldecosea, 21, of Miami Beach, Florida, told the Miami Herald that she contacted Spirit Airlines before her flight from Baltimore to South Florida on Nov. 21, 2017, regarding traveling with her dwarf hamster, Pebbles. Aldecosea claimed the airline told her it was not a problem to bring her hamster on the flight.
However, when the student arrived at the airport she said the airline refused to let Pebbles on the plane. Aldecosea said she did not have many options since her family was in Florida and her friends were hours away. The student claimed a Spirit employee suggested she either flush Pebbles down the toilet or let the animal free.
Aldecosea skipped her flight and tried to rent a car instead, but said she was too young to rent one. So she did what she felt was the most humane choice.
She flushed Pebbles down the toilet.
“She was scared. I was scared. It was horrifying trying to put her in the toilet,” Aldecosea said. “I was emotional. I was crying. I sat there for a good 10 minutes crying in the stall.”
The student said she considered letting Pebbles run free outside but could not bear thinking of her hamster freezing to death or getting hit.
Some support animal owner that is. I frankly know too many people who just want to bring their dog, for example, into restaurants and other places they shouldn't be, and get the papers to declare their pet a "support animal" so they can do that. It's very selfish and inconsiderate, and as this article illustrates, in the end it's the convenience of the owner that takes precedence, not the living, breathing animal they have imagined to be so important to their emotional well being. When push comes to shove, it's down the proverbial toilet they go.
I hope Aldecosea learns her lesson, grows up and gets over the idea she needs a "support animal." And may Pebbles rest in peace.

Well, that young lady's life is over. Stupidity does have a price, and the bill is coming for her.
ReplyDeleteIt's bad enough that she brought her hamster with her, but to actually flush the thing down a toilet and LET EVERYONE KNOW she did it?
Not that long ago, another young lady made a joke on Twitter about AIDS just as she got on a plane; when she got off the plane she had been fired from her job, had embarrassed her South African family, lost her friends and was forced into seclusion. Her little joke was perceived as "racist."
Then there was the hunter who killed Cecil the Lion; he would've done better shooting himself, though he'd committed no crime and supported the African economy; to SJWs everywhere, he was a monster.
Social media is devastating and is run by SJWs. They just love burning white women at the stake!
In a month no one will remember. But, Pebbles life is certainly over. Pebbles won't be there to meet Aldecosea on the Rainbow Bridge.
DeleteHe's headed for that great surfer camp in the sky. Surf's Up, Pebbles!
DeleteIts all about the money.
ReplyDeleteIm sure she’ll make a wonderful mother someday.
ReplyDeleteIf they let those annoying, rat-like, yappy dog comfort pets on an airplane, they should let a real rat that doesn't bark on.
ReplyDeleteAVENGE PEBBLES!
Justice for Pebbles! Let's march!
DeleteIt must be painful to be that foolish.
ReplyDeleteDon't want to be a Debby Downer; but here at Fort Hood; you can tell how many troops are shipping out, by the buzzards flying in the air. There is a dirt road south of the fort that continually is used as a killing field for dogs.
ReplyDeleteSteve
SO she killed her friend.
ReplyDeleteYeah, who is gonna "emotionally support" her now?
She oughta be charged with cruelty to animals for DROWNING the poor thing. Not a good way to die, I'm thinking.
At least if she'd let it go it'd have have a chance.
Loser, all the way around.
for those concerned for the little critter drowning in the sewer, just remember that the alligators down there got to eat too.
