In my travels around the yard this morning, I lifted up a board and found this guy, a Western Fence Lizard, otherwise known to farmers, ranchers and small boys as a Bluebelly.
What a little dinosaur!
He was awake, but too cold to resist me picking him up and taking his portrait. Wildlife!
Aaahh! The sun.
He's basking now. Generating energy. Cool lizard.

ReplyDeleteI spent a lot of time in the nearby vacant field when I was growing up. There were all sorts of critters there: swifts, alligator lizards, gopher snakes, meadowlarks, doves, butcherbirds, sparrow hawks, jackrabbits, scorpions, potato bugs, sun spiders etc. There was a pond with frogs, and tadpoles in two different sizes- small and huge.

It is now a large shopping mall. Or as I call it, a Giant Scum Magnet.
