Walks With Effort, Ponca, 1906

  1. Have seen a few pictures from this era lately. What is the significance of the medal they are wearing?

    1. Usually they wear those to signify friendship with the Americans. The medals were given to the tribes leaders as symbols of that, and when these guys had their pictures taken, they wanted it clear that they were not hostile. By 1906, not many were.
