Bone Necklace, Oglala Lakota, Heyn Photo - 1899

  1. He definitely had a sharp scalping knife and a war lance. Indian squaws were discriminated against in gender profiling because they weren't warriors. Nobody brings that item of gender equality up. You never see squaws leading a war band in cowboy & Indian movies. Indians were not prone to social justice.

  2. I couldn't help but think of Boy Scout Merit Badges when I see the sash (vest?) he's wearing.

He probably has badges in Archery, Hunting, & Scalping, but I'd bet it was Mrs. Bone Necklace who did the beads & embroidery.
