And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
that is a hell of a lot of work. my Dad built fireplaces for years. thousands of them for rich people. he did only a handful in dry stone like that one. why ? takes too long and you have to fit every stone just right and there is a lot of concrete/motor behind that stone face too. and the fire box is made of fire brick and so is the "smoke stop" that the cast iron damper sits on. someone spent a few weeks to a month doing that.
Built ours all inside so all the radiant heat warms the house most of the night, though its a dual draft, a wood stove provides all night warmth, really evens out the heat in the house once the chimney starts shedding energy. Both running helps for the coldest weather. Besides its just beautiful, we used river rolled granite stones, lots a colors and shapes, a piece of art, guy who built it for us.
That stonework isn't bad but I had a family out of Gatlinburg, TN and two brothers out of Knoxville who made that look shabby. But ,damn, that's hard painstaking work. Bubbarust
That is shabby work. Amateur hour. My pal Leon would do far better than that. Always in demand, he charged $50/hr back in the 1990s. Compare his work to this waste of effort would be night and day.
Are there more pictures of that house/cabin?
ReplyDeleteNeeds an 82" flat screen right slap in the middle above the firebox lol

God bless your father for his artwork.

ReplyDeleteNothing but reverent respect for that kind of talent and effort.
